GREENVILLE, S.C.—A group of Furman University graduates who have gone on to become respected scholars in their fields will return to campus this week to participate in a two-day symposium that will honor religion professor Dr. John Shelley on the eve of his retirement from the Furman faculty.

“A Symposium on Theology and Society: In Celebration of the Teaching Career of Dr. John C. Shelley,” will take place April 5-6.  All lectures, which are free and open to the public, are held in Daniel Chapel.

Shelley, who will retire from the faculty at the end of the current school year, has taught at Furman since 1980.

The symposium will begin Friday, April 5 at 3:15 p.m. with three mini-lectures on “Why Biblical Theology Matters” and conclude Saturday, April 6 at 11 a.m. with three mini-lectures on “Theology and Society.”
